Speaking to press persons after holding a meeting with the mayors of seven corporations, he said as of now there was no provision to transfer the officers among the corporations. The draft rules allow transfer of officials among the corporations. The draft rules does not apply to BBMP.
The minister felt that transfers among the corporations would improve officers’ efficiency as they get experience of working in different places. Copies of the draft rules would be sent all corporations within a week and it would finalised after taking opinions from elected bodies of all corporations.
Mayors of corporations of Hubli-Dharwad, Mangalore, Bellary, Mysore, Davangere, Belgaum and Gulbarga have founded Karnataka Mayors Forum. The mayors submitted a memorandum to the minister demanding that term of mayors should be increased to three years. They also demanded that the government should hand over maintenance of roads and bridges within the limits of corporations to corporations.
