252 bus stops to flash arrival info soon

If things go as planned, after around a month commuters on city buses will get information on arrival of buses at 252 bus stops. This is being done on the lines of Delhi Metro where passengers can know in advance the timing of next train at the platform.

The passenger information system (PIS) boards are currently installed at bus stops in New Delhi Municipal Council area (NDMC) and Ambedkar Nagar Moolchand BRT. However, the PIS boards currently display information of only the cluster buses. The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) is now updating the data of its buses on the server.

The move comes after the Delhi traffic police wrote to DTC chairman to provide information about the arrival of buses, as done in Delhi Metro.

The DTC officers said, while information system across all the bus stops in the city will be taken up gradually, the facility will be available at 252 bus shelters in a month, where the boards are already available.

A senior DTC officer said they have got a letter from Delhi traffic police with certain suggestions.

“The data of duty allocation chart of the DTC buses is being updated. The updating was to be done by the state transport authority. However, it could not be done due to some reasons. Now the data updating is being done by DIMTS,” the officer said.
He added that since data compilation will take a month’s time, they hope to start the facility at 252 bus stops in a month.

There are around 500 city bus stops across Delhi. Of the 252 bus stops, which have PIS boards, 90 are on the BRT, while the rest are in the NDMC area. The PIS boards are operated by transport consultancy firm Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS).

The traffic police have also asked the DTC to ensure that all the bus stops are properly lit to ensure security to commuters during evening and night hours, especially to women.
