Stories of resilience

Last Updated 18 May 2009, 16:11 IST

With a reasonable turnout at the Chor Khor Sum Ling Centre on the second day, the evening began with Dreaming of Tibet by Will Parrinello.
This one-hour documentary spoke about the resilience of the human spirit under the most dire circumstances. Focusing primarily on three Tibetans, who have survived in exile and worked towards the survival of their culture, the documentary showcased the difficult challenges each one faces and conveys the sense of hope they bring to their lives. What was really interesting was the fact that this was one of those documentaries that focused on individual Tibetans other than the Dalai Lama.
This was then followed by a feature film, Windhorse by Paul Wagner. This political drama is about three young Tibetans (Dolkar, Dorjee and Pema) in search for freedom and fulfilment amidst the clashing cultures of Chinese-occupied Tibet. Similarly, the festival over the weekend saw some award-winning movies, like The Cup: An Inspiring True Story by Khyentse Norbu and Dreaming Lhasa by Ritu Sarin and Tenzing Sonam.
The last day, May 19, will see four different screenings namely Art in Exile by Nidhi Tuli, Dramgyen:The Lute and Richard Gere Is My Hero by Ashi Eugyalaversion and Undercover In Tibet by Channel 4. For details, call 41486497.
