Elected representatives forced to take a break from launching works

Last Updated 22 March 2013, 18:40 IST

No sooner than announcement for the Assembly polls were made, equipment like pickaxe used for groundbreaking ceremonies are being rested in rural areas in the district.

In anticipation of elections being announced, legislators of the district who had busied themselves in launching a series of groundbreaking ceremonies and other public works from the month of January, have now been forced to take a break.

The elected representatives were seen utilising such programmes as a platform to highlight their achievements during their tenure. It had become a regular affair for them to list out the works taken up under the MLA fund. Now, with election code of conduct in place, the launching of development works too have come to a standstill.

The elected representatives and their supporters who were busy visiting villages are now busy visiting the State’s capital, Bangalore, which has become a hub of political activities.

Also, all government programmes and meetings have been cancelled.

Meeting

The ZP meeting that was scheduled to be held on Thursday too has been cancelled. Advertisement hoardings too have been removed, which however comes as a reprieve.

The district administration has geared up to conduct polls in a smooth manner. The election staff who were busy in the local body polls around two weeks ago are now getting ready for the Assembly polls.

District population

According to 2011 population census the total population in the district is 10,20,962 including 5,13,359 men and 5,07,603 women.

The total number of voters in the four assembly constituencies is 7,30,184 with 3,71,106 men and 3,59,078 women.
