Udupi may be first CMC to use waste for manure

Awareness programme for students on solid waste management

Speaking on the occasion CMC President Dinaker Shetty said that students should be aware of the management and disposal of the solid wastes and recycling process. About 40 to 50 tones of solid waste is collected daily within the city limits.

Negotiations are held with Remondis, a German company, to take up the task of preparing manure out of the collected solid wastes. If the contract is settled, Udupi will be the first CMC to introduce the novel idea of utilising solid waste for the purpose of manure, he informed.

Speaking on the occasion, CMC Commissioner Gokuldas Nayak said that consciousness among the student community on the solid waste management will enable them to contribute to the edifice of good society. CMC has been taking up the venture for many years to create awareness among students, he said.

Drawing competitions for primary students, essay competition for high school students and drama competition for college students based on environment concern was held on the occasion. As many as 92 students took part in the competitions.

 Malpe Government Pre University College Principal Meti Mudiyappa, Matpadi High School Teacher Ashok Kumar Shetty and others were present.
