Mangalore Urban Development Authority Chairman Ramesh S has challenged Congress leaders to come for an open discussion on its recent advertisement which claimed that  MUDA is not giving permission to construct houses in three to five cents land.

Speaking to presspersons here on Saturday, he said that the Congress had been engaged in false propagation.

“The claims made by the Congress is an utter lie and bogus. The citizens of Mangalore should not heed to false propaganda of the Congress. After the BJP government came to power, it has given approval for 9,327 applications seeking for single sites. In 2012-13, the MUDA has okayed 3,324 single sites approval. The MUDA has been giving   single sites approval within 15 days of submitting applications if all the documents are in order.”
“The MUDA can give permission for constructing houses even on 1.33 cents land with 3 feet road as per the rules,” he claimed.

Ramesh said that the fee for three cents land has been waived by the BJP-led government. For six cents land, it is 50 per cent of the 15 per cent value of the land.

“One should not make false claims just to gain votes in the elections, thereby cheat the general public,” the Chairman said. As per the zonal regulation, the MUDA has given permission for the construction of staircase and toilets in the setback area.

As a result, there has been drastic decline in the violation of setback area.

Legal action

He said that the MUDA will initiate legal action against those who had given advertisement in the newspapers claiming that the authorities are not allowing the owners of three to five cents land to construct houses. “We have already consulted our legal experts and will approach the court of law,” he said.

Mangala Corniche

The Architecture Faculty of CEPT University, Ahmedabad, has already made a presentation on developing Mangala Corniche, the river front road from Jeppinamogaru to Kuloor.

A Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) will start functioning under the Urban Development Department for the implementation of Mangala Corniche Riverfront Development project.

Park

The MUDA Chairman said that the government has already given approval for  laying a park in old deer park near Kadri park, at a cost of Rs 24 lakh. The work on musical fountain at Kadri Park at a cost of Rs 1.24 crore will also be taken up at the earliest. Land has been earmarked for the park near Tavarekere in Hosabettu. The MUDA has decided to lay an unique garden and the land acquisition process has begun.

He said that the land acquisition process for the construction of multi-level car parking slot at old private bus stand in Hampankatta has already commenced. About 1.2 acre land belonging to the MUDA near Mariyagiri church in Padavu village will be distributed among the police who were part of STF in anti-Veerappan operation.

Deputy Speaker Yogish Bhat and MLC Monappa Bhandary were present.
