Five allegedly assaulted for entering temple

In a shocking incident, five dalits including an elderly woman were allegedly assaulted at Holehundi village of H D Kote taluk on Friday, bringing to fore the existence of caste based inequality in regions of the district.

Puttamma, a dalit woman aged 68 had entered Siddarameshwara temple in the village on account of a fair on Friday.

However, Appajigowda and Kalaswami of the village allegedly abused her and forced her out of the temple  premises.

When members of the dalit community tried to seek an explanation from Appajigowda and others, they too were allegedly assaulted.

A case has been filed against Siddaramu, Swami, Beeregowda, Appajigowda and Kalaswami at the H D Kote police station.
