Uttar Pradesh police officer, Keshav Chand Goswami, who had embarrassed the police department by remarking that no one would rape a 35-year old woman, was on Saturday removed from the post of Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Deoria district.

The station house in-charge of Bankata police station was also removed as he had refused to lodge the FIR of the rape victim, according to official sources here.

The victim has been sent for medical examination and a case of rape has been registered against the alleged accused, sources said.

The ASP, while shooing away a rape victim, who was in her thirties and a mother of four children, had remarked that no would like to rape a ‘purani' (old) woman.

The victim and her family members had approached the official for registration of a case against the culprit.

Senior police officials here had to apologize over the remarks. They also said that the ASP had been asked to explain the same within two days.
