II PU student ends life

A II PU student committed suicide at her residence at Kaverinagara in Mahadevapura on Friday, allegedly due to the fear of her poor performance in the examinations.

Jamuna Rani, 19, hanged herself to death from the ceiling, when her family members were not at home.

The student of Commerce at the SMSG Jain Arts, Commerce and Degree College, Indiranagar, Jamuna Rani was a bright student and had prepared well for the final exams, said Jayanthi, her mother.

Jamuna had given her Accounts exam on Thursday and Friday was a revision holiday. She was to attend her Business Studies examination on Saturday.

Jamuna, on Thursday, had told her mother that she could not concentrate and found the Accounts exam tough. She was anxious over her poor performance, Jayanthi added.

“We counselled her that we will support her even if she had to attempt the subject again. But, she was sensitive and feared humiliation from her peers, in case she failed in the subject,” Jayanthi said.

On Friday evening, when Jamuna's brother Manikanta returned home from the college and knocked the door, there was no response. He broke open the door and found his sister's body hanging from the ceiling in the room. Jamuna’s father Muniraju is working in Tamil Nadu, while her mother is employed with a textile factory at Kaverinagar. Mahadevapura police have registered a case.
