Join hands to provide cheap cancer care, urges Dikshit

Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit on Saturday underlined the need for coordinated efforts of government and the private sector to ensure affordable cancer treatment, a leading cause of death around the world.

The chief minister called upon the medical fraternity, public, media and government to put in strong efforts in this regard.

“All stakeholders should disseminate message about detection and overcoming cancer because the negative perception associated with the disease leads to inertia and inaction. This in turn allows the disease to progress and we reach the stage where the success of treatment is much less,” said Dikshit while inaugurating Park Cancer Hospital at Meera Enclave in west Delhi on Saturday.

Dikshit also stressed upon the need of developing smaller hospitals — colony hospitals and dispensaries — to reduce over-crowding in major hospitals.
