HCL campus recruits stage protest

Last Updated 31 March 2013, 04:44 IST

The campus recruits for Hindustan Computers Limited (HCL) Technologies staged a protest at the Freedom Park for not appointing them despite issuing Letters of Intent way back in 2011.

Around 120 shortlisted-candidates staged a day-long hunger strike at the Park.
They alleged that the company was violating its own recruitment schedule.

“Initially, the company mailed us joining dates. But as the dates neared, we were asked to undergo Frontrunner Programme Test in August. In January this year, they called for the test for repeaters, which however was cancelled,” a candidate said.

Most of the candidates claimed to have availed education loan to the tune of lakhs of rupees to fund their engineering studies and were no facing difficulty in repaying the loan. With no definite answer from the company, the candidates.

With no confirmed answer for their query from their prospective employer, the candidates have already filed a complaint with Karnataka State Labour Department, which in turn has written to HCL Technologies seeking explanation by April 5th.

The regional HR spokesperson from HCL, when contacted, refused to comment on the matter.
