Medical seat cheating ring busted

Last Updated 30 March 2013, 19:54 IST

The City police have busted a cheating ring that had duped a student from West Bengal of Rs 28 lakh promising her a medical seat in the State.

The police arrested Muzamil Ameen, 24, Tanveer Pasha, 33, and Syed Ayoob, 26, who operated from the City. The trio, through one of their common friends, had contacted Riya Sarkar, a pre-university pass-out seeking a medical seat in 2012.

They promised her a medical seat in MS Ramaiah College under the management quota and took Rs 28 lakh for it.

However, when that failed, they promised a seat at Basaveshwara Medical College in Chitradurga. When this too did not materialise, the gang snapped all contacts with Sarkar who lodged a complaint at the KG Halli police station.

Following the arrest, the police recovered Rs 1 lakh in cash and a luxury car the trio had bought using the money.
