It’s that time of the year again when glamour, fashion, entertainment and cricket take centre stage.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is in its sixth season and Bangaloreans are getting set to enter Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium in their fashionable best.

After all, there is no ignoring the fashion quotient at these matches. From the shorts, linens and denims to accessories like big bags and cool hats, Bangaloreans love to make style statements during the IPL season.

Some of them get funkier with accessories like glares shaped like beer bottles, ‘Gayle’ caps and zoozoo doll hats. It’s evident that the IPL isn’t just about cricket — it’s about standing out in the crowd and looking perfect for the camera as well.

Metrolife spoke to a cross section of people, who shared their fashion fundas for this IPL season. Designer Manoviraj Khosla, who is often spotted at the matches, says that it’s best to stick to casual when it comes dressing for a cricket match. “No one can go wrong with team jerseys. Just wear your favourite team’s jersey with a pair of denims and you’re good to go.

Though the matches are at night, there is a lot of heat in the stadium so don’t forget to keep it light and casual,” he advises. This season is also all about neon colours. Designer Nimrita Lalwani says that one can expect to see this trend in the stadium as well. “Neons will really help you stand out and make a statement during the matches. Sporty casuals are the best style mantra for the IPL. It’s always best to avoid heavy fabrics. One should dress in light, breezy clothes,” she adds.

Some Bangaloreans also take inspiration from the celebrities who attend the matches. Some of the best dressed celebrities spotted during the last few seasons have been Preity Zinta, Shilpa Shetty, Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone. Megna, a student of St Joseph’s College of Commerce, takes her inspiration from Deepika Padukone.

“I think Deepika comes dressed the best for the IPL. She wears the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) jersey and denims and makes the outfit look classy. I too would wear a RCB tee and jeans with brown shades,” she says.

Fashion is also an important part of the IPL after parties. Actress Harshika Poonachcha says that she will take time out to try and attend these parties. “If I do make it for the match, I will wear a tee and denim but it’s going to be short dresses for the after parties,” she adds.

It looks like the temperature is only rising this IPL season.
