The water level at the Siva Balancing Reservoir (SBR) dropped by 19 inches below the minimum level on Sunday forcing Bangalore water Supply and Sewage Board (BWSSB) to request Cauvery Niravari Nigam (CNN) to release water immediately. This is the third time in a month wherein the water level has dropped at SBR, from where water is drawn to the City.

BWSSB official says that dropping of water level at SBR will have a cascading affect on the water supply to the City.  Earlier, it was the four minor hydel plants, which were blocking the flow of Cauvery water and, now, it is the restricted release of water.

The official said that although CNN official had released 500 cusecs of water to the SBR, there is always a controlled release to the reservoir.

Confirming the controlled release of water from KRS, a CNN official said that the reservoirs have depleted to alarming levels and there has to be a restricted release of water as there are chances of wastage.
