JOIN USOn a day when Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi pitched for inclusive growth and laid down his vision for the nation, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi subtly hinted at his national ambition.
Modi said he wanted to “repay the debt of the nation.”
Speaking at the book release function of former bureaucrat-turned-industrialist in Odisha R P Gupta, the Gujarat chief minister said everyone, including him, should repay the country’s debt. Modi’s comments came after Gupta said: “Isn’t it time that Modiji, after having repaid the debt of Gujarat, should repay the debt of the nation.’’
In response, Modi said: “Guptaji has just said I should repay the debt of the nation. I just want to tell him, not just me, but all of us should repay the debt.” Political observers believed that Modi had subtly hinted at his desire for a larger national role.
