<p>Four persons, including a Delhi University lecturer, have been arrested on separate charges of rape, police said on Thursday.<br /><br /></p>.<p>A political science lecturer was arrested in outer Delhi’s Rohini for raping an engineering student on the pretext of marriage.<br /><br />Virender Singh of Timarpur teaches at Satyawati College. He was held after the victim approached K N Katju Marg police station on Monday.<br /><br />“Virender developed a physical relation with the woman after promising marriage, but lately he began to ignore her,” a police officer said.<br /><br />The woman informed police, which led to Virender’s arrest.<br /><br />Abused by live-in partner<br /><br />A 21-year-old woman alleged rape by her former live-in partner at west Delhi’s Nangloi.<br />The victim claimed that she had been living with Jai Prakash at a rented house for the past two years. “A month back, the woman started pressurising Jai for marriage. Jai, however, refused to marry her and fled,” another police officer said.<br /><br />He was held on the basis of technical surveillance after the victim approached police.<br />Two other rapes were reported from south Delhi’s Pul Prahladpur. An 18-year-old girl was was raped by her father’s colleague.<br /><br />The victim lives with her family at a rented house, but was alone at home when accused Bablu, who is a painter, came to the house late on Wednesday.<br /><br />“Finding the girl alone, Bablu sexually assaulted her and fled,” a police officer said.<br /><br />Physical assault<br /><br /><br />Bablu also physically assaulted the victim when she resisted. The incident came to light when her parents returned home.<br /><br />In the latest incident, a youth was arrested for raping a 21-year-old after promising to marry her.<br />Rais was held after the victim, who hails from Haryana, underwent a medical examination at the AIIMS trauma centre.<br /><br /></p>
