MLA calls upon farmers to take up subsidiary occupations

Legislator Y Sampangi called upon farmers to achieve progress by taking by subsidiary occupations.

Speaking after inaugurating Janaspandna programme at Kannur  village on the outskirts of the City on Saturday, Sampangi said that farmers should take up dairy farming, horticulture and sericulture for their financial well-being. He also suggested farmers to adopt modern methods of agriculture to get improved yield.

The legislator directed the officers concerned to take stringent action against people involved in sand mining in the tanks. He also instructed them to act tough against illegal stone quarrying.

Root cause

Observing that rampant sand mining is the root cause for depletion of water level and thereby giving raise to acute water scarcity, the legislator said that the officers at least henceforth enforce law in letter and spirit and against people indulging in such unlawful activities.

The situation, if unchecked may lead to acute water scarcity and put the people of the town and nearby areas into hardship, he noted.

Taking the officers who stayed from Janaspandana to task, Sampangi said that the officials should take part in Janaspandna, a programme to take administration to the doorsteps and help people in availing the benefits of various welfare schemes.
Taluk Panchayat executive officer Venkataswamy disclosed that all families in Gram Panchayat limits will be paid Rs 2,500 for construction of toilets.

He urged the villages to take benefit of the scheme and construct toilets in their houses.
Urban Development Authority president Munirathnam Naidu, Agricultural Produces Marketing Committee president Dr Krishnamuthy, member Muniswamy Reddy, tahsildar Dakshayani, officers Masalappa, Ramesh, Ashwathanarayana and others were present on the occasion.
