Spin legend Prasanna snaps ties with ICL

Last Updated 18 May 2009, 17:48 IST

At its Working Committee meeting last month, the BCCI had set a May 31 deadline for all those associated with the ICL to sever their links with the unauthorised body so that they could return to the BCCI fold.

Prasanna, who was on the ICL committee and also served as a match referee, confirmed on Tuesday that he had tendered his resignation. “I have submitted my resignation to the ICL, and have also informed the BCCI of the same,” the offie non-pareil said. “The Board had made it clear that those who leave the ICL can get back to the mainstream and though there was time till May 31, I have already put in my papers. The ICL authorities left it to us to decide on our exit, and there were no legal hassles."
Currently busy with his own spin academy, Prasanna said he would be more than happy to work with youngsters, both under the BCCI umbrella as well as with the Karnataka State Cricket Association. “I am always open to helping youngsters and imparting the finer points of spin bowling," he observed. “Spin always has a critical role to play, in all forms of cricket. In a Test, if the spinners don’t come into play after 20 to 25 overs and medium-pacers are still in operation, I would say the fielding captain has thrown in the towel.

“My spin philosophy is simple – bowl to get wickets, don’t bowl for fun, and bowl the right length. That’s how I got my wickets and that’s what I have been saying since 1962!"
