Kageri, Ramdas, Udasi file nomination papers

Primary and Secondary Education Minister Visvesvara Hegde Kageri, Medical Education Minister S A Ramdas, former minister C M Udasi were among the prominent candidates who filed their nomination papers for the May 5 Assembly polls on Saturday.

In all, 129 nominations were filed on Saturday taking the total number of nominations papers filed so far to 257.

While Kageri filed his nomination papers from Sirsi in Uttara Kannada district, Ramadas filed his papers from Krishnaraja in Mysore district. Udasi, who quit the BJP to join the KJP, is contesting from Hangal in Haveri district.

So far, as many as 16 candidates have filed their nominations on BJP tickets, 10 from JD(S) and 15 from Congress.

Addressing a press conference in Bangalore, Chief Electoral Officer Anil Kumar Jha said 3,266 election-related complaints had been received in the State. A majority of the complaints were electoral roll/ EPIC card-related (983) or regarding enrolment forms (1,054). As many as 1,845 complaints had been disposed of. As many as 92 complaints had been received regarding violation of model code of conduct and 67 cases had been registered.

Cash seized

Jha said Nelamangala police on Saturday seized Rs 1.65 crore cash being transported in two vehicles. “A case has been booked and Income Tax department officials have been informed,” he said.

In another incident, Ramanagar police seized Rs 12.75 lakh cash at Hejjala checkpost on Thursday. So far, Rs 2.3 crore unaccounted cash has been seized in the run-up to the polls.
