From End Point to skies, for a cause...

The paraglider, that was brought from Meghalaya, with an aim to spread awareness among voters in Udupi district as a part of the SVEEP, took off from the End Point grounds in the midst of cheerful morning dews and the pleasant breeze.

Nikolai Singh who flies the paraglider is the DGCA approved paraglider pilot. The paraglider which is into creating awareness among voters to increase the electoral participation has already taken up the task at Ramnagar, Mandya, Mangalore, and Bangalore. It runs at around 10 kms radius at a time and covers a district per day. The paraglider will visit Karwar on Thursday. Singh needs Air Force and Air Traffic clearance before venturing out in the blue along with his paraglider.

DC Dr M T Reju said attempts are made to reach out to all sections of the society. The paraglider SVEEP awareness programme will inspire the people in urban areas especially the students. Attempts are also made to reach out to the elite class who shun their democratic right. The pilot will drop around 160 pamphlets carrying SVEEP messages. The district aims to record at least 85 per cent of polling in the forthcoming assembly elections. There are around 8.8 lakh voters in the district, of which nearly two lakh do not cast their vote, he added.
