As many as 36,000 government employees have been drafted for poll duty in the 28 Assembly constituencies in Bangalore.

BBMP election in-charge Dr R Vishal told Deccan Herald that elaborate arrangements have been made to ensure free and fair elections. The poll officials include 2,500 micro observers.

“Polling parties have been dispatched to their booths with election materials. Security has been beefed up everywhere. Anyone trying to create disturbance will not be spared,” Vishal said.

For the convenience of voters, every booth will have drinking water and toilets and a ramp for physically disabled and elderly persons. The BBMP has also sought permission from the Election Commission to allow assistants for visually challenged voters.

Palike Commissioner Siddaiah, who is also the district election officer, has appealed to citizens to exercise their franchise without any fear or favour.

“Accepting money or any gift from the candidates or their workers amounts to bribery. It is an offence which people should not indulge in,” said Siddaiah. As many as 17,000 police personnel and 35 companies of Central armed forces have been deployed for security on the polling day. The police will also utilise the services of 1,000 civil defence wardens.
