On the eve of the Assembly elections, workers of two political parties allegedly clashed with each other in the sensitive Chamarajpet constituency on Saturday morning.

Congress activists said some JD(S) workers led by Ayub, a rowdy from Tippu Nagar, barged into the house of their party worker Babar, also a resident of the same area, and beat him up and his family members, telling him to stop working for the Congress.

Apart from Babar, the gang also beat up three women at his house – Nazma, Mousin Taj and Nazima Taj.

Babur identified the attackers as Ayub, Shabbir, Chand, Nadeem, Wasim and two others, police said.

Nazma told Deccan Herald, “We heard some commotion and we rushed out of our room to see what was happening. We saw some men beating up my husband Babar. When I and two of my cousins intervened and tried to reason with them, they thrashed us, too.”

In his complaint to the Chamarajpet police, Babar said his attackers, belonging to the JD(S), had threatened to eliminate him if he continued to work for the Congress.

Babar alleged the same gang had attacked another Congress worker in Tippu Nagar, but no police complaint was lodged.

As Babar and his family members rushed to the police station, the JD(S) functionaries tried to prevent them from lodging a complaint and sought a compromise. However, Babar went ahead and lodged a complaint. Chamarajpet police have registered a case.
