Bansal becomes prime target of Opposition

Last Updated 06 May 2013, 19:14 IST

The demand for Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal’s resignation took precedence over demands of Law Minister Ashwani Kumar’s resignation as the bribery scandal involving his nephew was fresh one and it also caused arrests of important people including his nephew and the Member (Staff) Railway Board.

BJP members in Rajya Sabha made fun of Bansal. Gujarat MP Purushottam Rupla led BJP MPs into the well of the House with the slogan “O, Mama,  Desh ko Mama Na Banao, Isteefa Do” (O, maternal uncle! Do not make the country fool, resign your post). The slogan was inspired by the fact that Bansal is Vijay Singla, who has been arrested by the CBI for accepting Rs 90 lakh as bribe.

Repeated disruptions led both the Houses of Parliament to adjournment for the day on Monday.

BJP repeated its one more demand for PM’s resignation. Soon after the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha assembled at 11 am  BJP shouted slogans for resignations of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Railway Minister Bansal and Law Minister Ashwini Kumar. The Left asked for resignation of Bansal and Kumar.

Samajwadi Party members were on their feet to demand implementation of Sachar Committee report for welfare of Muslims. Lok Sabha was adjourned till 12 noon. Repeated disruptions in the Rajya Sabha resulted in adjournments.

Ultimately, both houses had to be adjourned during post-lunch sitting
