Last Updated 08 May 2013, 21:53 IST

Satish Kumar (alias Sathya), 28, a painter and a resident of Anjinappa Garden, was hacked to death by a gang of four assailants in Cottonpet police limits at around 12.15 am on Wednesday.

Senthil, Chandan, Harish and Gilbert have been arrested.

The suspects harboured a grudge against the victim’s brother, Peter, and wanted to murder him. The four came to Anjinappa Garden before midnight on Tuesday, armed with weapons. When they failed to find Peter, they went to Kumar’s house and called him out. They overpowered Kumar, took him to a poorly lit spot and demanded that he tell them where Peter was. “When Kumar claimed that he was not aware, a scuffle followed,” police said.

Senthil stabbed Kumar in his chest, while Chandan stabbed him in the abdomen. Harish struck his head with a blunt weapon, while Gilbert also stabbed him. Hearing Satish’s cries, the residents rushed to his aid. Seeing a crowd approaching, the assailants fled. Kumar was rushed to Victoria Hospital, but succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday, police said. “Satish was married and had a son,” police added.
