A 28-year-old man arrested for shooting dead a class 12 student in south Delhi’s Munirka on Saturday had bought the country-made pistol for Rs 2,000 from near Loni, police said on Saturday.

Subhash alias Rohit, a school dropout from Ghaziabad, was working as a cleaner with MCD in Shahdara.

Police have recovered the weapon of offence, Subhash’s bloodstained clothes worn at the time of commission of crime and a mobile phone.

“Subhash had become good friends with Sakshi Singh after meeting her in a marriage ceremony. They were in a relationship for the past two years, but Sakshi later started shunning him as she was more educated. It led to a feeling of revenge in Subhash’s mind,” said B S Jaiswal, deputy commissioner of police (south).

It has also come to light that Subhash spent an hour in Sakshi’s Budh Vihar house before opening fire.

“Subhash reached Sakshi’s house around 10 am. He entered her room after seeing her parents leave and bolted the room from inside,” Jaiswal added.

Subhash then started confronting Sakshi, and when she objected to his presence, he took out the pistol concealed in a paper bag and opened fire.

“Subhash fired in her chest with the intention to kill her,” Jaiswal said.

Sakshi was shot around 11 am, and was declared brought dead at Safdarjung Hospital.
She was a class 12 student in Sarvodya Senior Secondary School at R K Puram sector 5.
From the interrogation of Sakshi’s friends and enquiries made in the locality, it was established that Subhash was seen fleeing from Sakshi’s house after committing the crime.

“It was further revealed that Subhash was having an affair with the victim for the last two years,” Jaiswal added.

Raids were later conducted at Subhash’s possible hideouts in Loni, Baghpat and Baraut areas of western UP.

Finally, on the basis of a secret information, he was held in Ghitholi village in Baghpat.
A case of murder has been registered against Subhash with Vasant Vihar police station.
