Bestowed with an honour

St Claret College held its investiture ceremony and fresher’s day programme recently. The elections for the core council and student representatives, and the auditions for selection of candidates competing for Mr and Miss Fresher title, were held before the event.

The chief guest for the day was K Shrikanta, principal of Surana College. The other dignitaries included Fr Varghees, Fr Joseph Mathew, Fr Sojan Abraham and Fr Thomas Thennedy, principal, St Claret College. The investiture ceremony began with a prayer song by the college choir, followed by the lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries.


Professor Yoganand Rao welcomed the gathering and gave an introduction about K Shrikanta. The investiture ceremony was carried out by Maria, head of commerce department. The student council representatives were given their badges by Fr Sojan Abraham. The club representatives were given their badges by Fr Joseph Matthew.

The freshers were excited about electing their leaders. Jeslin, a first-year student of BA, said, “It was a good experience because I could see people from different combinations with different aspirations.”

Gaurav, a third-year student of BCA, who was contesting for the election, said, “I have contributed a lot to the college. I am a friendly person and also have a helping nature.” Other students like Jibin, a third year student of BBM, compared this year’s election to the previous one. “This year, there were a number of new additions like screening, panel discussion, audience interaction, campaigning and a democratic way of voting.”

The second half of the day saw the freshers’ day programme take place. The cultural representatives, Jithin Joy and Christina Mary carried out the programme with fun games involving the audience. The candidates contesting for Mr and Miss fresher title, were given various tasks, which tested their talent and confidence. The competition consisted of four rounds.

 A panel of judges questioned the contestants in the last round, and Rohit, a first-year BBM student and Vinam, a first-year BCom student were declared Mr and Miss Fresher.
