A 35-year-old man has been arrested in west Delhi’s Ranhola for killing his girlfriend who had been mounting pressure for marriage, police said on Friday.

Vinod Kumar Bairwa of Defence Enclave in Mohan Garden was held over probe after Uttam Nagar-resident Sumari Devi, 35, was found dead on Sunday.

“Vinod came in contact with Sumari last month, and was in a physical relation with her. When she insisted for marriage, he decided to kill her,” said V Renganathan, additional commissioner of police (west).

Police have recovered the weapon of offence, a knife, and clothes worn by Vinod at the time of committing the murder.

On Sunday, a call was made received by the police control room regarding a woman’s body in Ranhola.

A sharp injury mark on her neck was found, but the body could not be identified by locals.
A case of murder was registered with Ranhola police station and efforts were made to identify the body.

An information regarding the body was given to National Crime Records Bureau, Central Bureau of Investigation, State Crime Records Bureau and Missing Persons Squad. Ultimately, after lot of efforts, the body was identified as of Sumari.

During extensive local enquiry, it was found that Sumari was in regular contact with Vinod.

“He was detained for questioning and broke down during sustained interrogation,” Renganathan added.

Vinod hails from Rajasthan’s Dausa district, and shifted to Delhi in 1998. He has been working as a mason since 2007, and lived in rented houses of Vikas Nagar and Mohan Garden.
