FIIs invest Rs 12k crore in equities

Last Updated 19 May 2013, 17:55 IST

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) have poured in nearly Rs 12,000 crore into the Indian equity market so far this month, taking their total investments in equities to Rs 73,029 crore  since January this year.

FII net investments had plunged to 16-month low in April at Rs 5,414 crore.

Market experts attributed current inflows to improved global liquidity situation, softening crude and gold prices, which may help contain the already very high current account deficit (CAD). Apart from equity, FIIs have also invested Rs 8,788 crore in the debt market in May taking the total investment to Rs 26,866 crore so far this year.
