Trip tracker service for women's safety

In an effort to make their services safer for women, Meru Cabs, will provide “trip tracker service” to all its customers.

According to Meru Cab Bangalore Division Manager Anil Pandey, through the trip tracker service an appointed person of a family member of a woman passenger, will be sent a text message alert about the cab location and journey, thereby ensuring sense of safety and assurance for the lady traveler.

A text alert will be sent at the beginning followed up with text messages every 15 minutes through the journey. Every text message will include the customers name, trip start time and area of the beginning.

Meru Cabs Chief Technology Officer Nilesh Sangoi said “under the GPRS every single taxi is constantly being monitored. Over 50,000 trips have been covered since this system was introduced one month back.”

According to Anil Pandey being particular about drivers’ discipline, a training programme to discipline them is given. “If we do get any complaints, our response ranges from counselling, suspension or termination of the concerned driver.” Through the cab service drivers themselves have benefited socially and financially, he pointed out, stating “Meru has also introduced a scheme where drivers themselves can own their cars and take a higher percentage of revenue earned”. To grab a larger market the industry, Meru is planning to introduce ‘Economy Services’ which could bring fares down for commuters by about Rs 3 to 4 per km.
