Days before the Saturday attack on Congress leaders in Chhattisgarh, the security forces are believed to have seized an internal communication of top Maoist leaders acknowledging setbacks in recent encounters and expressing concerns over cadre deserting the party due to lack of motivation.

Security forces claimed that the letter was written by “Gagur”, suspected to be the alias name of Maoist central committee member K Sudarshan, who is the brain behind the Saturday attack that claimed life of 27 persons and injured many others in Darbha area of Sukma in Bastar region.

The letter, written in Telugu and seized from a hideout in Jagarguda in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh early this month, was addressed to Comrade Shyam whose real identity is not known to the police.

“Whatever I am writing to you may be known to you, but it may help you in assessment. The enemy is regularly attacking us from all the sides and we are suffering losses in every corner, but still we are following the principle of Mao. Physically, we are in a better position,” Gagur alias Sudarshan wrote.

The letter lists several encounters with security forces in Jharkhand, Gadhchiroli in Maharastra and in Bastar of Chhattisgarh in which the Maoist cadres suffered casualties besides losing weapons.
