A 15-year-old who is paralysed below the waist has beaten all odds to score a perfect 10 Cumulative Grade Point Average in class 10 board exams.

Shreya Yadav, a student of Lions Public School, Gurgaon, got 10 CGPA in English, Mathematics, Science, Sankrit, and Social Science.

She says she was confident that she would do well. “I was 90 per cent hopeful that I will do well. But the thought of Maths scared me,” the elated teenager told Deccan Herald.
Shreya accredits her parents — her father is a businessman and mother a homemaker — for her success.

“My parents have always been very supportive, especially my mother.
She has stood by my side at every step,” she says. “My teachers have also helped me throughout the journey,” she added.

Shreya says that one must work hard to succeed in life. “Working hard is a habit. Everyone must pursue his dreams. He must focus on what he wants,” says the teenager.  “I prefer studying at night.

I used to study two to three hours daily and on weekends I would study if only I felt like it.” She adds, “During exams I used to study in the day and revise at night. I never went to bed if I had not revised the portion that I had completed in the day.”

Turning point

Once she had got a merit certificate that proved a turning point for her.  “I stood first in class 3. My parents were called and I was presented a scholar’s badge by school authorities. It was a turning point for me,” says Shreya.  “Since then I had decided that I can make my parents proud by scoring good marks. So I started concentrating in the studies.”

Looking ahead

Shreya wants to become a lawyer. “I have taken up Humanities, though everyone is asking me to opt for medical or non-medical. But I want to take up law in higher studies so I am making my base strong now,” says 15-year-old. She took the Central Board of Secondary Education exam under the orthopaedic impaired category.
