Andhra, Delhi win

Andhra Pradesh and Delhi won the girls’ and boys’ AITA inter-State Nationals under-12 tennis tournament at the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association complex on Saturday.

Andhra girls beat Karnataka 2-1 to emerge winners. However, it was Karnataka who logged the first point when Prarthna Prabhakar got the better of Andhra’s Pratyusha Rachapudi 7-5, 4-6, 7-5. But S Rachna Reddy went down without a whimper to Pratibha N Prasad 6-1, 6-0 to level the scores.

In the decisive doubles match, Annika and Prabhakar proved no match to Reddy and Amineni to lose 1-6, 1-6 and with it the tie.

In the boys’ final, Delhi beat Andhra Pradesh 2-1. Haryana won the third place in both boys’ and girls’ categories.

Results (all finals): Boys: Delhi bt Andhra Pradesh 2-1 (Vipul Mehta bt Menga Rohit 7-6 (5), 2-6, 6-4; Sacchit Sharma lt to B Rithvik Choudary 3-6, 2-6; Mehta/ Sharma bt Teertha/ Choudhary 6-4, 2-6, 10-7).

Girls: Andhra Pradesh bt Karnataka 2-1 (Pratyusha Rachapudi lt to Prarthna Prabhakar 5-7, 6-4, 5-7; S Rachna Reddy bt Pratibha N Prasad 6-1, 6-0; Reddy/ Amineni bt Annika/ Prabhakar 6-1, 6-1).
