The district in-charge minister for Bangalore will head the 20 committees including the disaster management committee.

The decision was taken on Saturday at a meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, to review the disaster management in the wake of heavy rains in the City for the last few days.

District In-Charge Minister Ramalinga Reddy, BBMP Commissioner M Lakshminarayana and other top officials in the State government were present. During the meeting, Siddaramaiah and the officials chalked out certain short-term and long-term plans for City’s civic infrastructure.

Siddaramaiah instructed the officials to change the name of disaster management authority to disaster management committee for administrative purposes. Siddaramaiah also gave his consent to the recruitment of 2,000 pourakarmikas in Bangalore.
As a short-term measure,  he directed the officials to carry out desilting of drains.
Lake encroachment

Siddaramaiah directed the officials to clear encroachment of lakes and their main stormwater drains, and to desilt them.

He told the officials that the increase in the storage capacity of lakes would reduce the chances of flooding and would recharge the water table.
