A motor licence officer was thrashed by four unidentified motorcycle-born assailants in front of his office in north east Delhi’s Jyoti Nagar on Saturday morning, police said.

Anil Chikara is  a prosecution witness in a court case related to scam that took place at the transport department’s vehicle fitness unit in Burari.

He was about to reach office when the assailants, who were already waiting for him, waylaid Chikara and beat him up.

“Hearing the commotion, several persons rushed to his rescue. The accused, however, fled from the spot after threatening the onlookers with dire consequences,” said an eyewitness.

Police were informed about the attack after which the victim was taken to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital. “He was discharged after first aid treatment,” a police officer said.
Anil was punched and kicked by the assailants due to which, he sustained several injuries. A case was later registered with Jyoti Nagar police station over the victim’s statement. Meanwhile, all 17 MLOs and 13 zonal offices in the capital refused to work on Saturday to register their protest against the attack, which hampered the official work throughout the day.

While speaking to media, Anil held local goons responsible for the attack. He further said his strict orders against touts could have triggered the attack.
