Maxi back in vogue this summer

Be it Deepika Padukone, Sonam Kapoor or Dia Mirza, Bollywood actresses seem to be in love with maxi these days. By sporting this flowing silhouette as a casual or party wear, these divas have made maxi the latest fad this summer.

“The maxi is a major fashion statement this season. Breezy and elegant, a flowing maxi which is loosely fit and made from light fabric makes it highly trendy,” says designer Nidhi Gupta.  “The classy maxi long comes in many forms and silhouettes, like flowing, drape and slim or body-hugging styles. They are available in plain fabrics and prints and come with different necklines like a high, strappy or strapless, or the halter neck.”

Talking about the fabric and the colours that are in these days, the designer says, “There are no specific fabrics for maxi. Anything – chiffon, silk, cotton, or polyester – can make for a beautiful maxi. But in colours one can go for neon and pastels, as they are the latest trend this time. Asymmetrical designs such as geometrical, graphic, floral, swallow and animal prints are also in vogue.”

To add extra smartness to the overall look while carrying maxis, one can team it with a short denim jacket or a shrug. A pair of flat sandals with it puts a totally different look altogether.  For a more polished look, go for a blazer. If your maxi is in a neutral shade, brighten it up with a bold coloured jacket. If the dress is bright and busy, add a neutral-toned blazer. Give yourself a finishing touch with a long necklace.

“In the daytime, a maxi can look cool with gladiator sandals and sunglasses and minimal make-up. If the neckline is not deep, one can go for a long dangling neckpiece and handcuffs for that glam look. If you are planning to carry a bag then opt for slings, pouches or a clutch. It will add style to the outfit,” advices Nidhi.
