Two incoming international flights were diverted to Bangalore airport after they could not land in Chennai due to heavy rainfall on Thursday.
A Sri Lankan Airlines flight from Colombo and an Oman Airways flight with 145 and 160 passengers respectively were scheduled to land at Anna International Terminal around 3.30 pm, airport sources said.
However, due to heavy rain and strong wind that lashed the airport area for nearly half an hour, Air Traffic Control ordered the flights to proceed to Bangalore.
“After circling the airport for some time, the flights were routed to Bangalore. Both flights then landed at Chennai around 7pm,” they said.
