The romantic comedy ‘Tanu weds Manu’ is proof of how director Aanand L Rai can render simple subjects into a power-house affair. Although it was his directorial debut, Aanand managed to grab a lot of eyeballs.

Aanand attributes his strength to his belief that cinema is the best way to communicate his thoughts and ideas to people.

“I prefer a heart-to-heart talk with my audience through my films. All my
stories are born from my experiences and things that I see around me influence
my thought process,” says Aanand.

Aanand has roped in Tamil actor Dhanush for his latest venture, Raanjhanaa, and this happens to be Dhanush’s debut in Bollywood. “It’s a simple love story, set in a small town. A lot of people can’t distinguish between true love and infatuation.

Today, we have a generation that just can’t accept true love. They keep wondering whether it is really love. Thanks to the lack of trust, a lot of people refrain from committing in love,” explains Aanand. He says that the story is simple and has only a handful of action sequences.

He e says that Dhanush has a certain innocence about him and that trait perfectly suited the character. “Dhanush is one of the finest actors in the industry. He can carry off just about any character with ease and he’s an extremely adaptable actor,” notes Aanand.

He admits that language was a bit of problem for Dhanush but the actor put in extra effort to make sure he overcame this.

Aanand works long hours but he confesses that he cherishes every moment he spends working on his projects. “It’s easy to choose a nine-to-five job and play safe but when you have a passion for something and yearn to excel in that, then I don’t think you tire of working towards that,” concludes Aanand.
