Continuous spoken English classes will be organised soon in the University of Mysore, along the lines of KSOU, said Vice-Chancellor, UoM, K S Rangappa, here on Monday.

Since, English has become an important part of communication, it is essential for students to have a command over the language, he said.

He was speaking at the inaugural of an add-on course in Communicative English for research scholars of University of Mysore, at Centre for Proficiency Development and Placement Services (CPDPS). The course will be held for 75 hours over a period of three months.

Lost opportunities

Noting that many students in the University were from rural areas, he said that though these students scored very good marks in examinations, lack of English communication skills often denied them opportunities in the job market.

Rangappa said that English speaking course would also be held by the University for post-graduate students, who feel the need to improve their communication skills.
Stressing that English teaching process for students in the University will be continuous, he urged the students to recognise the importance of English in professional careers.

Professor of English and Director of Prasaranga, C Naaganna advised the students to use television and radio as a medium to learn the English language. Director of CPDPS, Niranajana Vanalli was present.
