Monsoon brings heavy rain to Odisha

Active south-west monsoon triggered heavy rainfall at many places in Odisha on Wednesday. The wet weather is expected to continue as the local met office has predicted more rain in the entire state in the next 48 hours.

“Rainfall activities and thundershower will occur in most of the places in coastal Odisha and at many places in the interior pockets of the state. Heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur at one or two places during the next 48 hours”, a press release by the local met office on Wednesday said.

Koraput town in south Odisha tribal dominated district of Koraput received highest 60.5 mm of rainfall on Wednesday followed by 32.6 mm in Malkangiri town in another southern district of Malkangiri and 25 mm each in Puri town in coastal Puri district and Chandbali in north Odisha Bhadrak district.

Bhubaneswar received 16. 7 mm of rainfall on Wednesday.

The met office has also warned the fishermen not to venture into the sea during the next 48 hours. Monsoon had arrived in the state last Sunday, almost a week before the schedule date. It had entered the state through tribal dominated Nowrangpur district in south Odisha.
