A 13-year-old boy has accused his father of killing his mother following a heated argument at their house in east Delhi’s Ghazipur on Monday, police said.

Kanti Devi alias Pushpa, 35, was the sole breadwinner for her two sons – Tapas, 13, and Hrithik, 8 – as her husband Sanjay Kumar was living separately for the last three years.

According to police, Kanti was a security guard at a shopping mall in Ghazipur. She lived with her two sons in a rented accommodation in Ghazipur, while Sanjay lived along with his father at his native place in Bihar’s Vaishali district.

In his complainant, Tapas stated that he along with his mother and Hrithik had gone to attend a marriage at his native place in Bihar last month, where his father met his mother.

Later, his father, accompanied with another person, again met his mother to ease the husband-wife tiff as they were involved in a long-lasting grudge.

“My father came to Delhi on June 5 and started living with us. However, my father again started quarreling with my mother and not a single day passed without any argument between them,” Tapas told police.

It is claimed that Sanjay broke Kanti’s mobile phone during one of the arguments.
Tapas said on Sunday, after having dinner, he along with Hrithik went to the roof to sleep as his parents were indulging in another heated argument.

On Monday morning, when he went inside the house, he found his mother lying in a pool of blood beneath the bed. Sanjay was absconding.

Tapas immediately raised an alarm after which a call was made to the police control room.
“Kanti was taken to Lal Bahadur Shashtri Hospital, where she was pronounced brought dead,” a police officer said.

Police said Kanti was hit on the head with a blunt object and had possibly died on the spot. A case of murder has been lodged against Sanjay over Tapas’s statement with Ghazipur police station.
