Notices to BWSSB, hotels on clogged drains

Last Updated 14 June 2013, 20:32 IST

The Chairman of Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KPSCB), Vaman Acharya, has sent notices to Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) and hotels on Church Street, seeking reasons for clogged drains on the lane.

Acharya, along with other officials, inspected Church Street on June 10 and 11, following complaints of clogged drains.

Later, he issued notices to all hotels and the Water Board.

Waste segregation

During the inspection, environment officers Shivalinge Gowda and S Rajashekar instructed hotel owners to follow waste segregation effectively and warned against dumping trash on the roadside or in the drains.

BWSSB Engineer-in-Chief T Venkataraju said that tenders had been floated to replace the sewage pipelines which had not been replaced for 40 years. But no company evinced interest so far.

“The sewer pipes are small. Hence, sewage water overflows on roads causing inconvenience to the public. With many complexes and hotels around, the length
of pipelines will be increased to 300 mm each,” Venkataraju added.
