BIA changing angle of descent

However, A N Vishwanatha, General Manager (co- ordination), AAI said the change is a routine decision taken to upgrade existing CNS (Communication and Navigation Systems) at the ATC.  “The angle of descent is being reduced to 3 degrees. This is just the international standard,” he said, but denied that the earlier angle was faulty or dangerous.

“This is just media sensationalism. We are proceeding on a routine upgradation facility,” Vishwanatha added, on reports in a section of the media that described the angle of descent as a fatal flaw.
Meanwhile, sources in BIAL said, the airport uses two runways during the year, based on wind pattern in the atmosphere during summer, monsoon and winter months. “While runway 27 is used during most of the year (8 to 9 months), runway 09 is used for 3 to 4 months (usually in the winter months of Nov, Dec and Jan).
