Tejas clinches U-15 title

On a day of upsets, Belgaum’s Tejas Sanjay Kallolkar posted a hard-fought win over top seed Karthik Vyakaranam of NGV to claim the boys’ under-13 crown in the 18th W Suresh Kumar Memorial-AISS Global 3-Star State-ranking badminton tournament on Tuesday.

Kallolkar claimed the first game 21-16 and warded off Karthik 21-19 in the second game to wrap up the title.

In the corresponding girls’ final, second seed Drithi Yatheesh of East Cultural Association edged out club-mate and top seed Shivani A Pathi 23-21, 21-16. In the girls’under-15 category, top seed Apeksha Nayak of PPBA avoided an upset, clawing back from a game down to beat second seed Archana Pai 16-21, 21-9, 21-12.

In the boys’under-15 final, Akshay Srinivas notched up a 21-17, 15-21, 21-15 victory over Nikith Laxman.
