Seeds firm gets relief

Last Updated 18 June 2013, 19:15 IST

The Maharashtra Hybrid Seeds Company (MAHYCO), which was banned last August from carrying out any kind of trade distribution in state, last month received an interim relief order from the authorities for providing seeds in the Kharif season.

MAHYCO responding to an article “Farmer hangs himself in APMC office compound” in Monday’s edition has clarified that the ban has been lifted as it has received an interim relief from the state government.

The report had quoted well-known Vidarbha social activist Kishore Tiwari of the Vidarbha Jan Andolan Samiti stating that authorities carried out raids on two warehouses in Yavatmal district and seized “genetically modified RRF seeds which have not received clearance from the authorities to be sold in the market.”
