City police have traced the Nano car that had triggered a terror alert in City. The car was traced by a traffic constable at Nayanadahalli Circle on Tuesday. It turned out to be a false alarm and the two occupants innocent.

“A detailed interrogation of the two lead to the surmise it was a false alert. The two are businessmen from Gujarat and were in City on personal work. Their mobiles, e-mails and antecedents were thoroughly verified and the two found innocent. No case has been made and they were released,” Police Commissioner B G Jyothiprakash Mirji said.

He, however, refused to give out the identity or further details on the two. He said there was a general intelligence alert from Intelligence Bureau (IB) during the weekend and preparedness of police challenged by an alert that the City police received by one of the Bangaloreans on Saturday evening that a black Tata Nano car with registration number (GJ 05 CR 53) was moving around suspiciously in the City. This coupled with IB alert triggered hectic activity among police circles. Mirji said the City police took the alert seriously and elaborate security taken up. Nakabandi was put up across various entry and exit points and thorough check conducted. He said they had information on the car on Sunday itself and they were observing their movements.

However, this came to an abrupt end with the traffic constable attached to Byatarayanapura Traffic Police Station. The constable was at Nayandahalli junction when he spotted a grey coloured Nano car with the registration number (GJ 05 CR 53). He immediately alerted the sub-inspector at the junction, who gave his bike to the constable to chase the car. The sub-inspector immediately alerted the cop at the next signal – the KIMCO junction and blocked the circle. The constable and the two policemen intercepted the car and caught the two men. They took them and the car to Byatarayanapura Police Station. Senior police officials rushed to the station and interrogated the two men who were later found to be innocent.
