In the third ceasefire violation this month, Pakistani troops today opened indiscriminate firing along Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch sector in which a civilian was injured after an infiltration bid was foiled by Indian troops.

A group of four armed persons from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) were seen moving towards an Indian forward post in Krishna Ghati sector in Poonch district around 0950 hours, PRO defence, S N Acharya, said.

Alert Indian troops took position and opened fire at them, he said, adding they were pushed back towards PoK.

As the infiltration bid was foiled, Pakistani troops opened heavy firing on Indian posts in Mandi, Krishna Ghati and Chakan-Da-Bagh in Poonch sector.

In the firing a civilian was injured in the Poonch sector, Acharya said.

The injured, identified as Mohammad Shafiq, was hit by a splinter near Sher Shakti post in Mandi, reports said. He was shifted to district hospital at Poonch for treatment.

Sher Shakti, PP1 and PP2 in Mandi sector, Kripan and Kranti posts in Krishna Ghati sector and Bahadur, Rekha and Neck posts in Poonch sector also came under firing.
Small arms and 82 mm mortars were fired on Indian posts and Indian troops also retaliated, resulting in exchanges, the PRO added.

Earlier this month, a Junior Commissioned Officer was killed when Pakistan opened heavy fire with automatic weapons and rockets on Indian posts along the LoC in Poonch sector. Pakistan troops also opened small arms firing on Indian posts in Nangi Tikri forward area along LoC in Krishnagati.

Last month, Pakistani troops had pounded Indian posts along LoC in the Poonch sector with rockets. A Brigadier and two jawans were injured when Pakistani troops opened fire on Indian positions along the LoC in Tutmari Gali sector in Jammu and Kashmir.
