Men on motorcycles open fire at victims in their car

A 42-year-old man was shot at by four motorcycle-borne robbers in west Delhi’s Mianwali Nagar, police said on Thursday.

Rishipal Singh, a resident of New Seemapuri, was returning home with businessman Anil Gupta, 54, when he was attacked on Wednesday. “The assailants shot Rishipal in his chest and fled with a laptop bag containing Rs 1.20 lakh,” said a police officer.
Rishipal is undergoing treatment at Bhatia Global Hospital in Paschim Vihar and his condition is stated to be critical. He works as an agent with Anil’s trading company in Mianwali Nagar.

Anil, who lives with family at Paschim Vihar, told police that they were leaving office in a Hyundai Sonata when four men in two motorcycles waylaid them at around 8.30 pm.

“They tried to forcibly open the car’s doors and opened fire when Rishipal and Anil resisted,” the officer added.

Rishipal sustained a gunshot injury in the attack, while Anil escaped unhurt. Anil tried to flee, but was overpowered by the assailants.

“Anil was beaten up and a bag kept in the rear seat of the car was taken by the accused during the attack,” the officer said.

Hearing the commotion, several locals rushed to the spot. However, the accused fled after threatening the onlookers with dire consequences. Police were informed about the attack after which Rishipal and Anil were taken to Bhatia Global Hospital.
“Anil was discharged after first aid,” the officer added.

Anil was punched and kicked by the assailants due to which he sustained several injury marks all over his body.

A case under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code and Arms Act has been filed over Anil’s statement with Mianwali Nagar police station.

“Prima facie it appears that the robbers were tipped off about the money Anil was carrying. We suspect an insider’s role,” the officer said. Anil’s staff and friends are being questioned.
