Recession seen as reason for data loss

“The Ponemon Report, by Symantec, said that about 57 per cent of employees take away things like consumer database, source code and other confidential information, as they feel aggrieved while losing their jobs,” said Symantec India Managing Director Vishal  Dhupar. IDC was commissioned for the study.

The study, conducted in August and involved 142 companies across verticals in India, also showed that nearly one out of six Indian enterprises are hit by data loss. Majority also said technologies such as firewall protection, log analyser and intrusion pretension  are adequate to address data loss prevention, while 45 per cent thought there is no need for an exclusive data prevention solution since their existing security solutions are adequate.

About 52 per cent said compliance and regulatory mandates was a major driver to prevent loss of data, while 24 per cent thought it was due to pressure from international clients. Most mentioned business continuity as another reason to prevent data loss.
