Techie killed in road accident

A techie was killed when he rode his scooter into a truck parked on the HSR Layout ring road on Wednesday night.

The victim, Shayan Bhattacharya, 29, a native of Kolkota, was employed in the City as a software engineer with Accenture.

The accident occurred on Wednesday night when Bhattacharaya was returning home from work. According to police, Bhattacharya was riding on the ring road and he approached  a lorry parked in the middle of the highway. He was unable to apply brakes in time and rammed the lorry, suffering severe head injuries. Although rushed to a nearby private hospital, he was declared brought dead.

Breakdown

Police said that the lorry had suffered a breakdown and speculated that the driver may have left to find a mechanic. The lorry had been parked haphazardly in the middle of the road. “In addition, there were no proper street lights, preventing Bhattacharya from seeing the lorry from a distance,” police said.

Negligence

Madiwala traffic police have seized the lorry, towed it away and registered a case of death due to negligence against the lorry driver, who is absconding.

A manhunt has been launched for him. Bhattacharaya, married recently, was living with his wife in BTM Layout.
