Renewing old ties

Grand ball

The Old Cottonians’ Association, which was created in 1927, is organising the ‘Old Cottonians’ Ball 2013’, the annual reunion event for the alumni of Bishop Cotton Boys’ School and Bishop Cotton Girls’ School.

The 86th reunion, which will take place on June 29, from 7 pm at The Grand Magrath, will have over 1,000 distinguished Old Cottonians in attendance. There will be live music by a band called ‘Freedom’s Price’. DJ Ivan, an old Cottonian, will also be playing at the ball. Also on the agenda is an award ceremony, where three individuals will be given the ‘Old Cottonian of Eminence Award’, the highest honour for old Cottonians.

“The reunion is a great place to network, reconnect and meet the old and new Cottonians. There will be a diverse range of people coming in from batches as far back as the 60s to the 2012. People are flying down from the US and UK for the event — it means that much to Cottonians,” says Sumeet Shetty, honorary secretary of the Old Cottonians’ Association. Ask him this year’s edition is extra special and he replies, “We’ve used social media to create awareness about the event this time and also released a teaser video, which has over
40,000 views.”
